On the 2-hr new season premiere of CITY HOMICIDE, a drive-by shooting in middle-class suburbia. A local is killed, but was he the true target? When Homicide discover someone in the firing line is the head of the Patriotic Front – a nationalist student group with many enemies - they fear racial intolerance has stepped up to murder. The duty of a Homicide cop is to speak for the victims and find the truth, no matter the cost. Nick revisits this commitment when his first cold case returns in the form of a bereaved mother, a harassed witness and a mysterious stranger.

Detective Simon Joyner: clean-cut, passionate, loyal. A dedicated detective who’ll fight to the end to see that justice is served. But has he taken his thirst for justice too far? Could he also be a murderer? When Harvey Pullman turns up dead the Ethical Standards Department put Simon in the frame for the murder. With Pullman’s family clamouring for Simon’s prosecution and Detective Senior Sergeant Susan Blake determined to link him to the crime, it’s only his fellow detectives and his newly returned boss Senior Sergeant Stanley Wolfe who stand between Simon and a murder charge.

Gueststars: GEORGIE PARKER as DSS Susan Blake, ELOISE MIGNON as Layla Pullman and VAL LEHMAN as Dorothy Denzel.

Well considering that the official site didn't even list its return date til this week, I'm not surprised only 900 000 viewers tuned in. A lot of people may not have known it was on.They've left fans hanging for the best part of a year. They should have started advertising its return a month ago and built up some anticipation.

I enjoyed the episode. I was glad they didn't split it because after Simon was cleared of the first charge, and then he was shown in the light of a killer right after, I was thinking WTF? Why would they clear him and then have him suddenly become a murderer?

The suspense was well built though because I was actually thinking maybe he'd had a blackout, esp after he had called Stanley. ( Great to see him back btw.)

I thought the team worked well together tonight. They all seemed to have equal billing. Having Nick working on a separate case at times was a great way to work him in without overshadowing the work done by the rest of the team.

And it was great to see so many smiles from Duncan in the first case. I just love that smile of Aaron's.

I loved the way the team all supported Simon, and the way he left at the end was actually perfect. I loved that song and the playback of past cases in his head that accompanied it. It was a fine way for Daniel to leave the series.

Georgie played a very unlikeable woman with a definite bias against Simon. She did a great job though. And though I liked Tasma's characters support of Simon, I still don't like her. Is it evil of me to hope she carks it next week?

Here's hoping more people are tuning in next week.
